Cracking up!

Last year three of the TTT gals plus myself decided to make the quilt pattern Cracked Pots by Miss Rosie’s Quilt Company.  We spent two or three different days together cutting it out and then started sewing on it at our TTT beach retreat in February.  We continued to have some sewing days off and on and finally finished up our tops at the Cobblestone Quilters Guild beach retreat in July.  Now I am trying to get them all quilted for our show in March.  Here’s a sneak peak at mine.

So all of last year we called ourselves the Cracked Pots and it probably was a pretty fitting name for us.  This year we decided to do a challenge.  We each donated fabrics from our stash and spent a day cutting them into 2 1/2″ strips.  From that we cut 2 1/2″ squares.  We also selected a background fabric and cut that into squares and rectangles.  We are using our combined fabrics to make Sister’s Choice blocks.  When we have made a bunch (the number has yet to be determined) we’re going to lay them all out and take turns choosing blocks.  Then we each have to design our own setting for our selected blocks.  We’ve had fun already and are pushing each other to step out of our boxes and use colors that we normally wouldn’t use.  After all, someone else might select that block and we won’t have to use it.  We are going to keep our setting designs a secret from each other until the great reveal.  This will be a lot of fun and instead of being pots all year we are going to be Secret Sisters.   So far we’ve made 27 blocks.

For this year’s beach retreat project we’ve selected the pattern Monterey Medallions by Terry Atkinson.  We spent part of Tuesday afternoon cutting it out.  Betsy got a little carried away with her cutting.

And this little mishap completely cracked her up!

That’s not a straight jacket she’s wearing………but sometimes we might need one!  Maybe we should have kept the name Cracked Pots.

Like the blocks. I’m trying to guess who made which.

I thought the Monterrey Medallion was going to be made by more than you 4 – or did I just dream that?

If you dreamed it Corky we had the same dream.
I thought there were at least seven people who were going to participate in the Medallion project.

I am thinking we better keep the Cracked Pots name. It is definately a fitting name. The pic of Betsy is priceless. Sheila

Corky and Maureen, you are correct – but I think Cindy and Janice are going to cut theirs together and I’m not sure who else is doing it – guess I should follow up on that. There is a LOT of cutting so we figured we could do a little bit each month. Then we can sew the entire time at St. Chris. Can’t wait to get there – it should be a beautiful time of the year.
